Yes, I still use the standard dial up connection. I'm having a problem. I keep losing my connection. Sometimes it will let me stay on for 10 minutes, sometimes 1 minute, then it disconnects. Is there a problem with my settings or what? thanks in advance

bunyon--I don't know the answer. I'm also on dial up, but with a local ISP. I had the problem you mention with MSN a few years ago and finally left them I have NOT had the problem at All.
First call them and tell them the problem They can correct settings without you being on-line.
It is most likely a setting that is wrong somewhere. My strong advice -Call the ISP.

Bunyon, I guessing your 1 of the millions who has AOL, it sounds like your geting knocked off by in coming calls, if so go into your connections area(numbers that dial out to the internet) click advanced, or edit somewhere in there, it's been a while since I had AOL. Next look for somthing saying disable call waiting or somthing. Just uncheck the area that sounds like call waiting. Remember it's been a while since I had AOL, my last version was 5.0.

If you want, lol, you could call Gay O L and talk to someone in India, but I personaly could not endure that kind of pain.

Good luck

Thanks for the replies guys

I currently have 3 ISP's....Bellsouth, Netzero and People PC. I have 3 because I've been trying to see if the ISP was the problem. It happens with all 3. Also, I have a 2nd phoneline just for the internet and none of my friends know the number. Thats why I thought the problem might be on my end.

Case and point: I've had to reconnect twice during this message.....LOL

You're pretty much gonna have to troubleshoot it piece by piece. See if you experience the same problem with your main phone line. Try a different phone cable. How old is the modem? If possible, try a different modem. Change any settings lately? Install any new software?

bunyon--Please let us know what you find out. It would be much appreciated.
I would still call one of your ISP's at least. Those people SHOULD be able to help.

I just remember a tip my local ISP provider told me about. Sometime when I am on YouBet.com listening to the races --I would get disconnected occassionally. He told me to keep my Outlook express (email program checking for messages every 10 minutes and that would take care of it. He was right and I haven't had the problem since.
